No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle.
-Winston Churchill
This story begins in 2012 at the Dixie Stampede. Mom took me to the Dixie Stampede for my tenth birthday and I absolutely fell in love with horses at that time. My dream from that point on became to get my own horse and ride in the Dixie Stampede.
Fast Forward to 2017 when I went to a rodeo Bible camp with my cousins. I was in horsemanship and the horse I got to borrow was amazing. Imagine my parents frustration when I came home asking for a horse. We had no land to keep it on and no money to even buy a horse in the first place but I was insistent. I searched high and low before I found the one.
Off Dad and I went to look at this handsome boy. As soon as I saw him I fell in love and he was magnificent to ride. In the trailer he went and we brought him home. To say I was ecstatic would be an understatement.
This boy and I have formed quite the bond over the past year and a half. We've had a lot of experiences together though not necessarily all good. I have grown a lot as both a person and farmer since I bought him. Needless to say, he's taught me a lot of things such as patience and not losing my temper. I have also learned many creative ways to get on him, as he is 16+ hands high and I stand at a measly 4'11 3/4".
He's by no means perfect, I mean the kid's only seven, but I wouldn't trade him for anything in the whole world. He spooks easy, he doesn't like small spaces and he doesn't always mind but no animal is perfect all the time. At the end of the day I couldn't even imagine having a different horses. I look forward to growing with this boy one bump and bruise at a time.
