Project Rehab Part 2- The Calf Pen

I love the calf pen. Calves are so funny and I love forming a bond of love and trust with them from a young age.
I have raised a lot of calves over the years but my current batch is probably my favorite. They are a pretty interesting and vastly diverse group.

Slick: So named because he started escaping from the pen almost as soon as we put him there. Not only that, but he became quite adept at sneaking up on people. For this reason Grandpa decided that Slick fit him perfectly. He is also the feed "hog" of the calf pen. Apparently being the oldest gives him the right to whoever's feed he feels like eating.

Amigo: Good old Amigo is the friend of the group. He was the first of Slick's pen mates and probably the friendliest. Luckily for Slick, he is laid back when it comes to meals, because Amigo is also the biggest.

Molly: Currently our only heifer, Molly really runs the pen. This girl has got an attitude. One time Slick kicked her out of her feed like he does with the others. Instead of just moving to another feed pan like Amigo would have, she turned around and kicked Slick in the shoulder. He learned real quick that small doesn't mean weak or gullible.
Fireball: This guy got a rough start. His mamma developed bad feet problems and started losing weight at a rapid pace. She could not provide enough milk for Fireball and sadly got weak and sick beyond saving. We had no choice but to put her down and start Fireball on a bottle. From day one he has shown a fiery, energetic personality- a fireball if you will.

Caffie and Grizzly: I am not technically raising these two since they are still with their mothers but we have both cow calf pairs up away from the milk thieves. On the left we have Grizzly, who acts just like his mother Nessie. On the right is Caffie. He belongs to my sister's old show calf Rafflesia.
I just love watching these guys grow up.

Winter Wonderland

This past weekend the weather decided it was about time that Arkansas had some snow. When it snows there's only one thing to do, go outside and take pictures! What you got there? I'd like some range cubes please. Make sure you get my good side. Oh yeah, there you go. Now, where is my food? Mom and Jacob think this looks like Mater from Cars. My baby is getting special treatment in the form of her own bucket of range cubes. Little Caffie is hunkered down and trying to stay warm. I'm not sure she likes this weather anymore than I do. My boy looks so pretty in the snow. You got that food yet? I'm STARVING. I love trees with snow on them. The world is white And at the end of a long cold day I get some Daisy snuggles. They are the best when it's cold outside. She is forever my baby. Snow is not my favorite because it's cold and it makes chores harder to do, but everything does look prettier.

Homemade Chocolate

Everyone loves chocolate but why go to the store every time you want some? This recipe is quick and easy.  You will need: 1 cup Coconut Oil 1 cup Cocoa Powder 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar 1/4 teaspoon Salt 1 teaspoon Vanilla Melt coconut oil in the microwave. Mix in cocoa powder, powdered sugar, salt and vanilla.  Pour into pan and refrigerate for 15 minutes or until hard. Remove from fridge and enjoy! It's that easy!

Thursday's Thoughts- Would You Stand?

Would You Stand? I have a very important question for you. Would you stand? This sounds like a simple inquiry, but it just may prove to be one of the most difficult ones you will ever be asked. What if you are sitting in church Sunday morning and suddenly masked men burst through the door holding rifles? Imagine that the leader announces that anyone who doesn't deny Christ will be shot. Maybe half the church chooses to denounce God and leave, but will you? Will the threat of death turn you away from your faith? Let me tell you about three men in the Bible who let absolutely nothing get in the way of their faith.  Travel back to the Old Testament with me and see a man who set his faith in God. His name was Noah. God told Noah to build an ark because He was going to send rain to flood the whole earth. Any other man would have laughed because, up until that time, it had never rained before, but Noah and his sons got right to work. For years they labored while their friends and ne
