That's Show Biz

Finding out that Grizzly is actually a heifer marked the beginning of the 2019 show season for me. This also got me to thinking about all of the things that come into play with showing livestock. It isn't for the flighty or faint of heart.
That's Show Biz is a series I will be doing throughout the show season. I will cover topics like feed, training and grooming. If you are a stock show kid, I hope that these posts will contain something that can help you.
Before we get started here are some things you should know:
1. I will be using cows and cow terminology for these blogs because that is the animal I have the most experience with. You can most certainly apply it to sheep, goats and pigs though.
2. You will read this phrase a lot; "Do what works best for you and your animal. " I stress this to everyone that asks me about showing livestock. This doesn't mean that you have to ignore other people's advice, it just means that not everything that they do will work for you. No two animals or people are the same.
3. I will be showing you the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to showing animals so be prepared because it ain't all pretty.
With that in mind, if you are showing livestock this year good luck and enjoy the series That's Show Biz.

Winter Wonderland

This past weekend the weather decided it was about time that Arkansas had some snow. When it snows there's only one thing to do, go outside and take pictures! What you got there? I'd like some range cubes please. Make sure you get my good side. Oh yeah, there you go. Now, where is my food? Mom and Jacob think this looks like Mater from Cars. My baby is getting special treatment in the form of her own bucket of range cubes. Little Caffie is hunkered down and trying to stay warm. I'm not sure she likes this weather anymore than I do. My boy looks so pretty in the snow. You got that food yet? I'm STARVING. I love trees with snow on them. The world is white And at the end of a long cold day I get some Daisy snuggles. They are the best when it's cold outside. She is forever my baby. Snow is not my favorite because it's cold and it makes chores harder to do, but everything does look prettier.

Mix in cocoa powder, powdered sugar, salt and vanilla.  Pour into pan and refrigerate for 15 minutes or until hard. Remove from fridge and enjoy! It's that easy!

Thursday's Thoughts- Job

Let's take some time today to observe a man that represents what we should act like as Christians. His name is Job and you can read his full story in the Old Testament but I'll give you a brief overview. The book of Job opens up to a scene from God's court. The sons of God had come to present themselves and among them was Satan. God couldn't help but boast about his number one servant Job. Satan laughed and pointed out that, like all men, Job would only love God as long as his life was good. Does this sound like a challenge to you because it did to God. He promptly gave Satan permission to do whatever he wished to Job as long as he did not harm him. Job was considered rich in those days because he had livestock. In Job 1:13-19, Satan strikes and Job loses everything including all of his animals and children. The only things left in his world were his house and his wife, yet he didn't respond the way most people would. In fact, his response is truly baffling but...
