My Cow Washing Routine
When I started showing, I struggled to learn how to bathe my cows the way I was supposed to. It's a real struggle and that's why I want to share my routine and a few tips with you.
First, you obviously need an animal to wash. Not all animals will like baths at first. They may be afraid of the water spraying them. If you have issues, let the water hose run on them for a little bit until they calm down.
Now it's time to lather them up with soap. I apply shampoo and brush it in with a bristled brush, then rinse it out and repeat with the conditioner. When their hair is wet you can brush it toward their chest to train it to stand up.
DidI mention that you should have a washing buddy, because you totally should. Grab a friend, family member or faithful dog to keep you company.
Now is when you do as I say and not as I do. Of all the cows I've washed, there have only been two that I could wash barefoot. It requires an animal that is extremely calm and even tempered about baths. Be safe and wear boots.
After you're done washing them, it's time to blow them out. I take this opportunity to use Sullivan's Zoom Bloom and Weaver Leather's Prohair 100. Both products must be combed and blown into the hair. Most animals do not react well to the first several times you use the blower because it is loud. Time will fix that problem.
I hoped that I have in some way helped you. Happy washing.
