Thursday's Thoughts- 1 John Chapter One

1 John Chapter One

Hey guys, grab your Bibles and turn to 1 John. Over the next five posts we will be going through the book of 1 John.
As we dive into the first chapter of the book, John immediately establishes that God's Word is eternal in verses 1-2. It was there from the beginning and it is still here today. Sound familiar? That's because he also talks about it in the gospel of John. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God." John 1:1-2.
Have you ever heard people say that they are hardcore Christians and then say or do things that makes you seriously question their claims? 1 John talks about them too, in verses 5-7. God is light so how can we do dark things and walk in His light? So, if we say we have fellowship with Him, but walk in darkness, we are hypocrites. On the other hand, if we walk in the light, we have fellowship with both God and our fellow believers.
"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." 1 John 1:8. Ouch. The reality is that only Jesus is sinless. I don't care how good of a Christian you've been your whole life, at some point you've sinned. Maybe you stole something or you lied to someone, but you have sinned and you're not alone because so have the rest of us. I know I have. If we tell people we aren't a sinner not only do we make ourselves liars, but God as well.
The good news is that verse nine assures us that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us. God does not care who you are or what you've done, he will take you back. He picks us up out of the mess, cleans us off and takes care of us.

Winter Wonderland

This past weekend the weather decided it was about time that Arkansas had some snow. When it snows there's only one thing to do, go outside and take pictures! What you got there? I'd like some range cubes please. Make sure you get my good side. Oh yeah, there you go. Now, where is my food? Mom and Jacob think this looks like Mater from Cars. My baby is getting special treatment in the form of her own bucket of range cubes. Little Caffie is hunkered down and trying to stay warm. I'm not sure she likes this weather anymore than I do. My boy looks so pretty in the snow. You got that food yet? I'm STARVING. I love trees with snow on them. The world is white And at the end of a long cold day I get some Daisy snuggles. They are the best when it's cold outside. She is forever my baby. Snow is not my favorite because it's cold and it makes chores harder to do, but everything does look prettier.

Thursday's Thoughts- Job

Let's take some time today to observe a man that represents what we should act like as Christians. His name is Job and you can read his full story in the Old Testament but I'll give you a brief overview. The book of Job opens up to a scene from God's court. The sons of God had come to present themselves and among them was Satan. God couldn't help but boast about his number one servant Job. Satan laughed and pointed out that, like all men, Job would only love God as long as his life was good. Does this sound like a challenge to you because it did to God. He promptly gave Satan permission to do whatever he wished to Job as long as he did not harm him. Job was considered rich in those days because he had livestock. In Job 1:13-19, Satan strikes and Job loses everything including all of his animals and children. The only things left in his world were his house and his wife, yet he didn't respond the way most people would. In fact, his response is truly baffling but...
